Converting video file formats

Does anyone know what program is good for converting video files to other formats? I have some DVDs I've recorded from TV and want to convert the files to a format that I can edit on computer, in order to make video clips available to students online (e.g. at Blackboard or via the UB website).

QuickTime Pro might be useful. It retails for about $30.00 and has a number of features you might be interested.

Haven't used much video conversion software before but I found a number of product descriptions you could wizz though. Many have useable demos and some are shareware too http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Search/quicktime.html

I'll try Macvide Screencap to see how it goes before moving to some PC specific stuff like Movavi AudioSuite 1.1.2

Hmm, I really should think some more before posting. You can always try Tucows for a range of freeware, demo, shareware video convertors. The Windows page for Video Conversion is at http://www.tucows.com/software.html?t=689

Tucows holds a list of all manner of software from utilities to language programs to games, as do the following websites. Just select your Operating System (OS) and browse/search.
